Dewis Gwyllt was developed to explore the potential for income generation from wild forest products to support community woodland groups in Wales. Our team works on the ground with groups and conducts scientific research to scope out sustainable harvesting opportunities. But it’s important to note we are not a foraging initiative.

Dewis Gwyllt Project 2019-2022
Dewis Gwyllt was a partnership project involving Llais y Goedwig, the community woodlands network for Wales, and Wild Resources Ltd, a forestry consultancy group providing applied research and technical services to support the sustainable use of wild forest products.
The project tested development of supply chains for five wild harvested products (birch, tree seed, wild garlic, elderflower and essential oils), The purpose of the project was to link communities with their environments and provide employment in rural areas.

StarTree Project 2012-2016
Our work follows on from our participation in the StarTree Project (2012-16). StarTree was an EU FP7+ pan-European research project looking at the potential for Non-Wood Forest Products (NWFP) to contribute to rural development in 14 regions of Europe. In Wales, we discovered that there are enterprises selling products that use wild ingredients, but there are few recognised supply chains or networks to join up woodland owners and managers who may have harvestable resources, with producers who could use them.
